Karen Drew

Anchor, Local 4 Defenders

Karen Drew has been a part of the Local Four News Team since 1998. Currently Karen anchors Local 4 News at noon. Additionally, she is an investigative reporter with the Local 4 Defenders team.

The Chicago native says she has made Detroit and Michigan her home... And can't imagine a better news town to work in! Karen has spent over a decade reporting for WDIV-TV and earning honors and awards all along the way.

The multiple Emmy award winning journalist has been recognized for her work in exposing fatal flaws in the city's emergency response system both in the 911 call center as well as a lack of manpower for paramedics. She has exposed all types of governmental waste .... from busting police officers getting paid to play basketball in Puerto Rico instead of patrol our streets, to parole officers not monitoring ex-cons and instead going shopping, tanning, and doing personal yard work. Her work busting con-artists is always appreciated in the community from adoption scams to slick talkers trying to pull one over you.

Karen is there time and time again to expose the wrong doing and protect the community.

Karen spends much of her free time doing charity work with local organizations like march of dimes, Christ Child House, arthritis foundation, skin cancer awareness groups. Karen came to Detroit after working in Jacksonville, Florida, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Montgomery, Alabama, and Dickinson, North Dakota. She graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois with a Major in Radio/TV Communications and a Minor in Political Science.

You could say Karen is the adventurous type - she has been trapped in a car and then rescued with the jaws of life on live television, she has gone scuba diving in the Detroit river with the Detroit police searching for handguns, she was put in a burning house and showed how to escape on live television, and has been thrown into the icy waters of the Detroit river in winter time to show how to survive! You never know what Karen will volunteer for - she is always up to the challenge! She also loves skydiving and mountain climbing!

Personally Karen enjoys spending time near the water . Whether its waterskiing up north, or enjoying a beautiful sunset in Florida!

She is a huge Detroit Tigers fan! She has season tickets so most likely you'll see her at the ballpark during the season. Other hobbies include running, reading, biking, and spending time with her husband and her family.
