Man Jailed After Alleged Attempt To Murder Wife

Judge Assigns $200,000 Bond

POSTED: 2:16 pm EST February 24, 2004

A man is housed in the Macomb County jail after allegedly attempting to murder his wife.

Michael Sean Connelly, 37, (pictured, lef) faces several charges including "attempting to do great bodily harm" after he tried to drown his wife in a bathtub and smother her with a pillow, according to police.

A judge has assigned a $200,000 bond to the case.

Macomb County Sheriff's Deputies say that Connelly was drunk when he arrived at his Macomb Township home, then started to beat his wife.

"They got into an argument and he forced her head into the bathtub and tried to put on the hot water and put her head under the water," said Anthony Wickersham of the Macomb County Sherriff's Department.

"He then followed her into a bedroom and tried to cover her head with a pillow," he said.

The woman was able to escape from Connelly three times, Wickersham said. She then called police.

The 50-year-old woman was not seriously injured.

The two have been married for six years, Local 4 reported.
