DETROIT -- Hall of Fame sportscaster Ernie Harwell is donating $2 million to the Detroit Public Library.
The former Tigers play-by-play man is also auctioning off a lifetime collection of sports memorabilia.
Harwell's attorney said it's one of the legendary baseball announcer's favorite local institutions. He says the auction is for future estate planning for Harwell and his wife, Lulu.
The library will dedicate a room in Harwell's honor. It's holding a celebration on April 16 to announce the gift. The auction takes place the next day in Chicago.
