A teenager accused of beating her grandmother to death with a claw hammer and torching her body has been found guilty on both charges, according to Local 4 reports.
Larketa Collier, 16, and Sharon Patterson, 17, were charged with murdering Collier's grandmother, Bertha Atkins, 64, and setting her Hampshire Street house on fire on Sept. 17 because of her disapproval over their lesbian relationship, according to Local 4 reports.
Patterson was was found guilty of murder but not arson.
The first-degree murder verdict for Patterson (pictured, below), 17, was sealed until another jury began deliberations on the case against co-defendant Collier (pictured, left) , Local 4 reported.
Collier gave a tearful testimony in court Wednesday as she recounted the details of her grandmother's murder at the home on Detroit's east side, Local 4 reported.
Collier, a Finney High School student, said Patterson suggested killing Atkins because of her disapproval over their relationship. Atkins also reportedly told Patterson to leave the home on that day.
Collier said she didn't take Patterson's threats seriously, until she heard screams coming from the other room.
"I heard a little bit of screaming, but I didn't know what it was," Collier said.
The girl then said she witnessed Patterson beating her grandmother with a claw hammer.
"She swung at her a few times before I got to her. Then I ran up to her, I grabbed by the waist ... (and we were) wrestling on the floor for a little while," Collier said.

Collier testified that Patterson suggested setting the house on fire to conceal the crime. She then admitted to pouring gasoline over her grandmother and lighting her body with a match, Local 4 reported.
The girl said she was scared and nervous when she realized her mother would be home soon and would make the discovery.
"I didn't want Sharon to go to jail. I didn't want nothing to happen to her. And I didn't want my mom to come home and see her like that," Collier said.
Collier said that after the killing, Patterson convinced her to go see the movie "Jeepers Creepers" to take their mind off what happened, the station reported.
Firefighters found Atkins' body in the burned-out home.
An autopsy confirmed that Atkins was beaten and burned, according to Dr. Cheryl Lowe of the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office.
"There was a claw hammer that was wedged in her face. Specifically, it pierced through her upper lip and her tongue," Lowe said.
Police said Collier's testimony Wednesday contradicted a statement she made to them in September that the two had planned the murder together.
Collier turned up the volume on a radio in the home to prevent anyone from hearing her grandmother screaming, according to police.
Both teens face mandatory life in prison when sentenced.
