A man who reportedly escaped police custody may face new charges of stealing police property.
Nathan Daniel Gubachy (pictured, left), 32, of Ann Arbor, Mich., was being questioned for breaking and entering Monday afternoon at the Michigan State Police post in Ypsilanti Township when he escaped, Local 4 reported.
A detective left Gubachy in an interview room at the police station for a couple of minutes, and Gubachy, who was handcuffed to a chair inside, managed to fit through a nearby window with the chair still attached, the station reported.Gubachy was seen carrying the chair across a nearby field, according to Local 4 reports. Police received reports that he was in the area of Huron River Drive and Lake Crest Drive in Ypsilanti Township.Police combed nearby neighborhoods and woods with search dogs.Resident Denise Kowalski said she witnessed police searching for the man."It wasn't bright. What can you do if you are attached to a chair?" Kowalski said. "We just locked the doors and went to bed."Police said Gubachy was not considered to be armed or dangerous.Officers reportedly tracked him down and brought him back into custody some time Tuesday afternoon. There was no word on if he was still attached to the chair when police found him.In addition to the breaking and entering charges, Gubachy could now face charges for escaping and stealing the police chair and handcuffs, Local 4 reported.
