The United Auto Workers and Ford Motor Co. have given nearly $2 million to restore a Detroit neighborhood ballpark.
A cleaner, safer and completely refurbished Balduck Park was unveiled Saturday.
The event drew Detroit Tigers players Austin Jackson, Rajai Davis and Torii Hunter. Detroit native and Tigers great Willie Horton also was there. He said this restoration of Balduck Park was long overdue.
"This is a big day or the city and these kids. Maybe it's the beginning of what we used to have -- east side, west side baseball," said Horton.
Improvements to the east-side park include the installation of bleachers, an updated scoreboard, landscaping and new restrooms.
Funding for the project is part of an ongoing relationship between UAW-Ford and Eagle Sports.
