Man arrested in connection to Monroe carjacking with child inside car

2-year-old boy who went missing inside stolen car discovered in Burger King bathroom

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – Local 4 sources say police have arrested the man they believe is responsible for stealing a car with a 2-year-old boy inside in Monroe. The man was arrested in Northville Tuesday.

The 2-year-old boy who was was inside the car was discovered in the bathroom of a Huron Township Burger King Sunday afternoon.

Police say the boy was being watched by his father's girlfriend, who went into the Towne Square Market at 1002 E. 3rd Street at 4:01 p.m. and left the car running with the child inside.

The woman was watching the car from inside the grocery store and saw a head bobbing around inside when the car suddenly took off. She flagged down another car to follow the stolen Buick, but lost sight of it in the area of I-75 and Laplaisance Road.

Police also recovered the 2002 Buick Rendezvous with an Ohio license plate during the arrest Tuesday.

Monroe police alerted other departments in the area, and a short time later, Huron Township police reported that the child was found about 20 miles from the grocery store in the bathroom of a Burger King on S. Huron Road east of I-275.
