3 armed robbers sought in Tapper's Jewelry heist

West Bloomfield Township police seek 3 in armed robbery at jewelry store

WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are searching for three men who robbed a jewelry store Tuesday evening in West Bloomfield Township. 

Tapper's Jewelry was robbed about 5 p.m. Tuesday. The West Bloomfield Dispatch Center got the 911 call about 5:14 p.m. 

The caller said an armed robbery had just occurred. Three men had entered the store armed with handguns and a hammer. They ordered everyone in the store to get down on the ground.

One robber ordered an employee at gunpoint to open a merchandise case. The employee complied and the robbers took the contents of the case. They fled the store before police arrived. 

There were 12 employees and seven customers inside the store at the time of the robbery.

"One suspect entered first and shortly after two followed him," said Lt. C. Lawson, of West Bloomfield police.

There were no injuries and no shots were fired, police said. 

Detectives are reviewing video of the robbers and their vehicle.

Meanwhile, West Bloomfield Township police have released three images of the robbers along with descriptions. All three are described as African American men.

One had a beard and a heavy build, weighing between 220 and 230 pounds and standing about 5 feet 10 inches or 6 feet 2 inches. He was wearing dark clothing.

The second robber had a medium build. He also was wearing dark clothing. He had black-and-red gloves and a bandanna covering his face. 

The third robber also had a medium build. He was wearing dark clothing, too, and a bandanna was covering his face. His gloves were black-and-white. 

Their vehicle is described as a newer model Chrysler Town & Country, dark in color.
