3 arrested after guns, throwing knife discovered at Detroit Metro Airport

Third gun in same week found Saturday

DETROIT – There have been some alarming discoveries over the last week at Detroit Metro Airport, where TSA agents have discovered three guns and a throwing knife.

This extra busy week for the TSA has prompted the agents to make several arrests and remind Metro Detroiters about the rules and regulations on travelling with weapons.

Saturday morning marked the latest incident at the airport, when a loaded .357 handgun was discovered inside a woman's handbag. TSA spotted the loaded weapon as it passed through security. The woman was arrested on the spot.

Last Sunday, a .38 caliber handgun was found in another woman's carry-on bag. The woman was an employee that worked at one of the retail shops inside Detroit Metro Airport. The TSA agents saw the loaded gun on the X-ray machine and arrested the woman.

A throwing knife was also confiscated at an airport checkpoint by the TSA, but no arrests were made.

Another gun was found at the airport last Thursday, when a Southfield man travelling to New York City was arrested. The loaded 9 mm in his carry-on was confiscated.

The TSA says this much activity is unusual, and remind those hoping to travel that guns can be travelled with as long as they are properly stowed and put in your checked luggage.

Knives are prohibited and cannot be taken into the airport or on a plane. The TSA pushed to have small knives allowed, but the push has been stopped.
