DETROIT - More than a year after his body was found near the old Brewster-Douglass Projects, three people now face charges in connection to the murder of French street artist Bilal Berreni.
Berreni, 23, had been living in Detroit when he was found dead July 4, 2013, with a gunshot wound to his head at St. Antoine and Alfred streets. It took months to identify him through fingerprints.
Jasin Curtis, 18, Dionte Travis, 17, and Drequone Rich, 20, are accused of robbing and killing Berreni. They all face felony murder, armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm charges. They are scheduled to appear in court Sept. 11 for a preliminary examination.
Maria Miller, assistant prosecuting attorney with Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, said a 14-year-old boy also is in custody and is expected to be charged in connection to Berreni's murder.
Berreni went by the alias "Zoo Project." He was known worldwide for his street paintings.
