3 kids seriously hurt in hit-and-run crash on Telegraph Road in Dearborn Heights

1 child in critical condition, 2 others hospitalized after crash on Telegraph Road

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – Three young children were seriously injured Friday afternoon when the car they were in was struck on Telegraph Road at Colgate Street in Dearborn Heights, police say.

The children, who are all under the age of 10, were in a Buick being driven by their aunt when a burgundy vehicle struck them and sent the Buick into a utility pole at Telegraph Road and Stanford Street.

The driver of the burgundy vehicle did not stop but fled on Telegraph Road.

The kids' aunt was taken to a hospital and checked out. She was released.

The 7-year-old child is in critical condition, the 8-year-old is in temporary serious condition and the 4-year-old is in stable condition. They all are at Children's Hospital.

Thanks to a tip from the public, Dearborn Heights Police report Saturday afternoon they located the vehicle that fled from the scene and the driver has been taken into custody.

Additional details about the accident are expected to be released on Sunday.
