3 killed after dirt bike, motorcycle collide

Both men drove without wearing helmets

MONROE, Mich. – Two young men and a young woman were killed Friday night when a dirt bike collided with a motorcycle in Exeter Township in Monroe.

23-year old Marc Thompson, of Monroe, Michigan, was driving a green 2010 Kawasaki dirt bike along northbound Doty Road, north of Zink Road. For unknown reasons the dirt bike moved left of the centerline and collided head-on with a red 1996 Kawasaki motorcycle headed southbound.

During the collision, Thompson and Chelsie Little, a 21-year-old female passenger, from Monroe, were thrown from the dirt bike and landed on the west shoulder of Doty Road.

The driver of the motorcycle, 18-year-old Darin Lipkowski, of Maybee, Michigan, and his passenger, 18-year-old Samantha Morlan, of Monroe, were also ejected and landed along the east shoulder of Doty Road.

Monroe Community Ambulance, London-Maybee-Raisinville Fire Department and Exeter Township Fire Department assisted after the incident, but both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The two women were taken to St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Little was pronounced dead when they arrived at the hospital, and Morlan was listed in temporary serious condition.

"Boy I tell you it's just a terrible thing that these young people aren't more careful," said Bill Grochowalski, who lives on the road. "Then their parents have to take and pick up the remains and bury them. Then the family and friends. It's just sad."

Both women were wearing helmets, but the men were not.

The crash is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 734-240-7508.
