3 people found dead in SW Detroit apartment

Police say neighbors heard gunshots Thursday evening

DETROIT – Police say two men and a women were found dead with gunshot wounds Friday night in an apartment building in the 1900 block of Hubbard Street in southwest Detroit.

Authorities say officers got to the apartment at 11:10 p.m. when a resident said he found the three bodies. The three people live in the apartment where their bodies were found. One is a 38-year-old man, the other two have not been identified, but appear to be in their 30s.

"The officers investigated and found two men and a woman deceased from apparent gunshot wounds," said Capt. Darren Szilagy, of DPD.

Police say it appears the deaths were caused by a shooting that happened on Thursday evening. Neighbors said they heard gunshots Thursday evening but didn't call police because they didn't see anything.

"Apparently there was some talk that maybe they heard gunshots last evening," Szilagy said. "No one called the police, unfortunately."

Szilagy said the man who found the bodies hadn't seen any activity from the room on Friday and decided to investigate. He found the door open and the people inside shot to death.

That means that when police got to the building, the murder scene was already 24 hours old, a huge head start for a killer.

It may have been a robbery that prompted the shooting, police say.

DPD says it's important to call police when you hear gunshots.

"I know people are desensitized to gunshots, but when they hear them, call," Szilagy said. "We need to get there."
