PONTIAC, Mich. -- A Detroit-area boxing coach accused of fondling a 16-year-old aspiring boxer's breasts, was sentenced Tuesday to two years probation and must register as a sex offender.
Ruben Flores, 63, of White Lake Township, pleaded no contest in Oakland County Circuit Court to fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison.
A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes.
Flores and the girl were with a group at the Pontiac Arts, Beats and Eats Festival in September 2003 when she claims he took her back to his gym and fondled her, Local 4 reported.
Along with the probation and registry, Flores must pay $2,640 in supervision fees, court costs and restitution, said Deborah Carley, the county's chief assistant prosecutor. He also is barred from unsupervised contact with anyone under 16.
A message seeking comment was left with Flores' attorney, Richard M. Lustig of Birmingham.
Flores in 1973 founded the Azteca boxing team, a magnet for young Hispanic fighters. It has produced both state and national champions.
