The
National Weather Service is expected to survey the damage in St. Clair County after a funnel cloud reportedly touched down Monday.
The tornado hit a strip mall in Fort Gratiot, causing severe damage to the roof, Local 4 reported. Several cars in the parking lot were also damaged.
Witnesses said they immediately recognized what they were seeing.
"It was big enough that you could see that it was going around," witness Ann Gouin said. "You could see that there was debris in it."
Another witness said it wasn't just strong winds, but was going into a circular pattern.
The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department said the funnel cloud also hit a Gander Mountain store and a Lowe's store located on 24th Avenue, then moved northeast toward the water.
No injuries were reported.
