An Ann Arbor Foot Locker store employee was reportedly assaulted after threatening to call police on three suspicious men Saturday.

The 34-year-old Briarwood Mall employee said the incident involved two men who were returning a pair of shoes, and a third man who was standing near a hat rack, according to a report in The Ann Arbor News. The employee reportedly believed the third man had stolen two hats, so he told the men he was calling police.

The two men allegedly assaulted the employee, punching him several times and spraying shoe cleaner in his eye. The employee suffered cuts and a bloody nose, but refused medical treatment, the paper reported.

The attackers reportedly fled the store.
