4 arrested after violent attack on University of Michigan student, bicyclist on campus

Man who tried to help female student during attack knocked unconscious

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – University of Michigan police arrested four people Wednesday in connection with a violent attack on central campus.

Police had been searching for four individuals wanted after a student was approached around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday by two women in the 1000 block of South University Avenue at the West Hall Arch.

The woman walked up to the student and started punching her, officials said. A man on a bicycle tried to stop the attack and was confronted by two men.

One of the men approached the bicyclist from behind and knocked him unconscious, police said. One of the women then kicked the unconscious man in the head, police said.

The four assailants left the Arch, walking into the central campus Diag. 

Police released the following descriptions of the four people wanted in the attack:

One woman was white, about 5 feet 2 inches tall and 18 to 24 years old. She had a medium build and blond hair. She was barefoot and wearing a black tank top and dark-colored shorts.

The second woman was white, about 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall and 18 to 24 years old. She had brown hair with long braids and was wearing two tank tops, dark-colored shorts and blue Nike shoes.

The first man was black, 6 feet tall with an athletic build and had close-shaven dark hair. He was wearing a navy Michigan T-shirt, dark Michigan athletic pants and dark shoes.

The other man was black, heavy-set and 5 feet 10 inches tall. He had short black hair, a goatee and a mustache. He was wearing a large black T-shirt, dark shorts and bright pink athletic shoes.

Police released images of two persons of interest. 

Four people were arrested about 10 p.m. Wednesday.
