DETROIT -- A weapon suspected in the shooting at WDIV-TV studios was discovered by police Tuesday.
The .380-caliber gun (similar to the one pictured, left) was found in a house on Campbell Street on the city's southwest side, Local 4 reported. The weapon will undergo ballistics testing to determine its history and whether it was used in the Friday shooting of former WDIV employee John Owens, the station reported.
No further information was released regarding the discovery of the weapon.
Ammunition for a .380-caliber gun was discovered behind a southwest Detroit barber shop Tuesday, Local 4 reported.
Local 4 reporter Marc Santia was at the U-Neek hair salon and barber shop Tuesday to interview employees after witnesses said suspected shooter Epifanio Rivas Jr. was spotted at the business after the shooting, the station reported. It is believed Rivas went to the barber shop in an attempt to change his look.
Santia was approached outside the barber shop Tuesday by residents who said they believe they witnessed Rivas put something in the Dumpster behind the building. Santia notified the violent crimes task force of the new information, and investigators searched the trash bin. A box of ammunition was found inside, with some bullets missing, the station reported.
Rivas was a frequent customer at the U-Neek barber shop, the station reported. Owner Jennifer Mundo said her staff was watching coverage of the Local 4 shooting inside the business Friday when Rivas entered.

"He came in the door and he was just acting normal," said Mundo.
Mundo said Rivas seemed a little "agitated." She said her staff joked with him about his resemblance to the shooter.
Rivas reportedly left the shop after being told he would have to wait for customers who had arrived before him, Local 4 reported.
Rivas, 25, was arrested Friday evening after police received tips about the shooting at WDIV, according to reports. He was arraigned Sunday on charges in connection with Friday's shooting, including assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to cause great bodily harm, felonious assault and using a gun in a felony.
Owens, 53, entered the television station at about 4:30 p.m. Friday to pick up a videotape for his new employer, Mort Crim Communications. He walked into the vestibule area of the lobby of WDIV, where another man had been trying to gain entry into the building.
Security camera video showed the agitated man displaying a handgun, then shooting Owens as the two stood in the vestibule.
Rivas told a Local 4 reporter that he didn't commit the crime, but witnesses pointed him out as the gunman in a lineup, the station reported.
Rivas is being held on a $750,000 bond until his next court appearance on April 29.
Owens remains in stable condition at a hospital. He is expected to face more surgeries.
