"The incident involved two adults and there could be a potential problem with them coming to the school," he said.
Police said there was an incident involving the adults that occurred outside the city of Wayne. There was no confirmation that either adult was coming to the school or posed a threat, but authorities put the school on lockdown as a precautionary measure, Baracy said.
The school later announced that the situation was determined to be safe and students were released for the day on schedule at 2:40 p.m.
School officials told Local 4 that the children were safe and secure inside the building during the lockdown.
"They're in their classrooms and the building has been secured -- no entry and no exit," Baracy said.
Parents were urged to stay away from the school until further notice.
"We want parents to know that their children are safe and there is nothing going on the premises at this point and time and the police are here with us," Baracy said.
There were no further details on what took place between the two adults or if police would be pursuing any charges against them.
