Police Shoot, Kill Pit Bull

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. -- A man who is running for a school board election Tuesday is recovering from a dog attack in Sterling Heights.
Christopher Arnold said he was walking with his mother in the area of 15 Mile and Ryan roads Monday evening to campaign for a position with the Warren Consolidated School District when a Rottweiler and a Pit Bull attacked them. The Pit Bull bit Arnold on the arm, Local 4 reported.
"It didn't get a full grip, and it just pulled away," said Arnold.
Arnold said the attack -- which occurred at about 6:30 p.m. -- could have been worse if it wasn't for motorists on Ryan Road, who started beeping their horns to distract the dogs.
"If it wasn't for that, this would have been a real ugly situation," said Arnold.
Sterling Heights police said the Pit Bull was shot and killed at the scene after attacking Arnold and officers, Local 4 reported. The Rottweiler was transported to the basement of the Sterling Heights Police Department, and was expected to be moved to the city's Animal Control facilities Tuesday.
The victim's mother, Elaine Arnold, was also campaigning for a position with the school board. She said the past few days they were walking in the area with children who assisted in the campaign. She called it a "Godsend" that the children were not present when the attack occurred.
Christopher Arnold was expected to recover from his injuries. He said he did not have time to go to a hospital Monday night because he was busy with last-minute campaigns for Tuesday's election.
