Kilpatrick Launches Campaign For Reelection
The elder Kilpatrick (pictured, left), when criticizing the local media's scrutiny of his son, compared it to the Holocaust.He said that "one lie" about a party involving strippers at the Manoogian Mansion -- where Kwame Kilpatrick lives with his family -- has spread into a series of negative stories against his son."They had a big lie in Europe … guy by the name of Goering that said the Jews was responsible for all the misery the Germans was having … and that lie caught on," he said. "Before it was all over, 6 million of them died off of one big lie."Bernard Kilpatrick went on to say that because of "one lie," the media has ignored the improvements that have been made in Detroit since his son has been in office.Rabbi Charles Rosenzveig of the Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills was surprised by Bernard Kilpatrick's comments, Local 4 reported.Rosenzveig invited the mayor and his father to the center to learn more about the Holocaust's history.Bernard Kilpatrick issued a statement of apology on Wednesday."On Tuesday, I made a reference to the Holocaust that I realize, in retrospect, was ill-advised and inappropriate. I regret making those remarks," he said. "I would never intentionally do or say anything to trivialize one of the most grievous atrocities in the history of the world. I apologize profusely to anyone who was hurt by my comments."
