Flames Destroy Newly-Renovated Highland Park Homes

Sheriff's Deputies Take Four People Into Custody

POSTED: Friday, June 24, 2005
UPDATED: 3:55 pm EDT June 24, 2005

Three newly-renovated Highland Park homes were destroyed overnight in what may be a case of arson, Local 4 reported.

Wayne County sheriff's deputies took three adults and one minor into custody who were seen running from the burning vacant homes on Winona Street, just east of Woodward.

The minor was released after questioning, the station reported.

The fire comes just as Highland Park is working to rebuild from a blaze that destroyed three homes and left six people homeless on May 13.

Glen Moore, who lives across the street from two of the homes that were engulfed in flames early Friday, had one question for the persons who may have been responsible for the blaze.

"I would ask them, 'Why?'" Moore said.

Sources told the station that the fire, which started shortly after the Pistons were defeated by the San Antonio Spurs, may have been set by disgruntled fans.

Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the blaze.

No injuries were reported.
