Sheriff's Department Assists Police With Search For Suspect

POSTED: Monday, August 15, 2005
UPDATED: 5:35 pm EDT August 15, 2005

Four men escaped from the custody of Pontiac police on Monday afternoon, Local 4 reported.

Jahmal Dillahunty, 23, who was in court on a felony murder charge, remains on the loose, police said.

Police captured three others, but it was not known what charges the men were facing, the station reported.

The men got away from 50th District Court after overpowering a security guard, according to police. One man had reportedly taken the security officer's gun, but it was recovered, Local 4 reported.

Dillahunty may or may not be armed, but he is not in possession of the security officer's gun, Local 4 reported.

Dillahunty was convicted of home invasion in July 2000, second degree, Rescue 4 learned. He was discharged in 2003. The specifics of Dillahunty's murder charge is not known at this time.

The suspect is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, and is reportedly wearing a dark blue sweatshirt and denim shorts.

One of the escapees was found hiding under a van and another was found hiding in the basement of a nearby facility. It was not known where the third man was apprehended.

PRISONER ESCAPE: Police are advising people in homes and businesses around the area of Saginaw Street in Pontiac to stay inside and to remain aware.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department is assisting Pontiac police with the search for Dillahunty.

Police have shut down Saginaw Street between Woodward Avenue and M-59. Parts of other streets and businesses near the courthouse were also closed, according to Local 4 reports.

Anyone with information about Dillahunty's whereabouts is asked to call Pontiac police at (248) 758-3340.
