Vandals Strike Northwest Airlines Property
Airport Police Investigating Destruction

Local 4 obtained exclusive pictures of damage in a break room at Detroit's Metropolitan Airport.
Vandals reportedly destroyed the room in the hours leading up to last Friday's strike by Northwest Airlines mechanics.
Picnic tables were overturned, trash was thrown around the room, workout equipment was battered and a television set was destroyed.
Northwest officials also say someone poked holes in equipment making it impossible for planes to get necessary water.
But the worst damage was to Northwest ramp vehicles. Several of the vehicles were so badly broken, they will have to be replaced.
Local 4 showed the pictures to Dennis Sutton, vice president of Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association, Local 5.
"I'm shocked at seeing what I'm seeing. AMFA would never condone anything that," he said.
Sutton said he didn't recognize the break room and said he doesn't believe it is a mechanics break room.
He said AMFA leadership specifically told members not to break or damage any Northwest property.
"It could have been something that was done after midnight after we left. No work group is happy on the property at this time," said Sutton.
The airline said it does not believe the actions represent the behavior of the majority of AMFA-represented employees. The vandalism does not present any safety danger to passengers, the airline told Local 4.
Northwest won't say how much the damage will cost, but it's clearly in the thousands of dollars.
Metro Airport's police detective bureau is investigating.
