Chases With Meat Truck, Pickup Caught On Tape

Masked Men Rob Livonia Meat Company

POSTED: Tuesday, September 20, 2005

Two separate chases by Livonia and Roseville police were captured on video.

Police said on Friday night, three armed, masked men stormed into a Livonia meat company.

The men beat and pistol-whipped the employees and stole thousands of dollars from the business before fleeing the scene in a stolen meat truck, according to police.

Livonia police responded to the scene after one of the employees escaped and called 911.

Officers spotted the meat truck on Interstate 96 and chased after the vehicle, Local 4 reported.

The driver of the meat truck was swerving from lane to lane on the freeway before attempting to exit at the Southfield Freeway.

At some point, the driver lost control and the meat truck rolled over, the station reported.

Police placed Billy Bingham, 38, under arrest. He was arraigned Tuesday on charges in connection with the incident.

Police are still searching for Bingham's accomplices.

The employees that were beaten in the robbery were treated and released from a hospital, the station reported.

Driver Leads Police On Chase Through Several Cities

The driver of a pickup truck was charged from his hospital bed after leading police on a chase through several cities on Monday morning, Local 4 reported.

Walter Bachman, of Lapeer County, was taken into custody after he sped away from Roseville police officers, who were attempting to pull him over for allegedly making an improper turn.

Police pursued Bachman's truck as he attempted to weave through rush-hour traffic on Groesbeck and other main roads in Macomb County, the station reported.

The front tire of the pickup was flattened by stop sticks that were laid on the road by officers, but Bachman continued to drive on the rim, according to police.

Police said Bachman narrowly missed several cars and at one point rear-ended a van. He eventually lost control of the vehicle and went off of a road.

A construction crew blocked the pickup truck in and police apprehended Bachman.

Bachman was charged Tuesday afternoon at a hospital, where he's being treated for injuries, the station reported. No other injuries were reported in the incident.

Police said they don't know why Bachman fled from authorities. He has no criminal record and his toxicology test came back negative, the station reported.
