5 arrested in Detroit police chief death threat

Police say 5 in custody connected to death threat against Chief Craig

DETROIT – Five people have been arrested in connection to a death threat made against Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

The threat was found on social media this past week. It showed images of guns and harsh words directed at Craig.

Investigators believe the actual threat may have come from a prominent drug dealer. The five people now in custody did not actually make the threat but are responsible for sharing it and spreading it further on social media.

"We're not going to tolerate threats against the police chief, police department, or this community. We will not be deterred,," said Craig.

One of the five arrests is part of a narcotics investigation and another is for a parole violation, police said. The other three were on existing warrants.

At this time no one faces charges. Detroit police say this case has some sort of a connection to Los Angeles.

The alleged drug dealer who made the actual threat has not been arrested.

Chief Craig said the dealer likely is upset and feeling the effects of the Detroit Police Department's five recent raids as part of a push to clean up drug houses.

The FBI along with Detroit police are still investigating this threat.
