WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

Police and fire personal responded to a five car accident on West Huron near Voorheis in Waterford Township around 9: 45 p.m. Thursday.

Police said the chain reaction started when a 59-year-old man from Rochester Hills ran a red light and struck another vehicle.

The other vehicle was driven by a 53-year-old woman from Davisburg.

After striking the first vehicle, the man then continued traveling eastbound on West Huron striking a pick-up driven by a 39-year-old man from West Bloomfield and a car driven by a 36-year-old woman from Waterford.

The impact on the third car caused the driver, who had a 4-year old passenger with her, to strike another vehicle driven by a 21-years-old Waterford man.

The driver, who police said ran the light, was transported to an area hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.

The women and her 4 year old passenger are listed in serious condition.

The second driver involved in the accident was taken to an area hospital and later released.

Investigators said airbags were deployed and all drivers were wearing seatbelts including the 4-year-old passenger who was properly secured in a child seat.

Police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident at this time.
