5 charged in violent break-in at Mt. Clemens home

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – Five people have been charged with breaking into a Mount Clemens home, assaulting the homeowner and stealing computers, cellphones and cash.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office said the suspects broke into the home on Canfield Street Saturday evening. They were wearing masks and were armed with handguns and knives.

Deputies said one of the suspects held a knife to the throat of a 38-year-old victim and forced her to give them money before they pushed her face down onto a bed.

Five other people in the home were forced to the floor by the suspects, deputies said.

The suspects stole computers, cellphones, iPods, two gaming consoles and cash.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the homeowner's 911 was crucial.

"They were calm. They provided us with descriptions. Our dispatchers did a great job of getting that information so we can send that information out to the first responders," Wickersham said.

A deputy responding to a 911 call about the break-in spotted a Pontiac Grand Prix on Gratiot Avenue with five people inside who matched the description of the intruders.

The car was pulled over and deputies found the stolen items inside.

Deputies also found a loaded revolver, an airsoft gun, a folding knife and a box cutter in the car.

Those charged were Chevas Antwayn Walker Jr, 21, of Kalamazoo; Channor Dior Lewis, 18, of Clinton Township; Dwayne Cooper Rasberry Jr., 17, of Clinton Township; Joshua Lee Mills, 19, of Clinton Township; and Jesse Alex-Ondre Stevens, 19, of Mount Clemens.

Walker, whom police identified as the getaway driver, is charged with armed robbery and first-degree home invasion.

Lewis, Rasberry, Mills and Stevens are charged with armed robbery, first-degree home invasion and unlawful imprisonment.

All of the suspects were arraigned Tuesday and are being held in the Macomb County Jail.
