DETROIT -- Firefighters continue to extinguish hot spots Monday morning after battling a five-alarm blaze that swept through a warehouse on Detroit's west side.
The fire broke out in a warehouse at Wesson and Buchanan roads -- near Livernois and Interstate 94 -- at about 4 p.m. Sunday and burned for several hours, according to Local 4 reports.
The building was abandoned but there were some plastics materials and automobiles being stored inside the structure, the station reported.
No widespread evacuations were reported, but residents living near the east side of the building were told by authorities to leave their homes.
David Mardeuz, who lives next door to the structure, thought he lost his home to the blaze, the station reported.
"I have nothing. I don't know what's going to happen," he said.
But Mardeuz later learned that firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring homes.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, but no other injuries were reported.
A hazmat team monitoring the air said there did not appear to be any hazardous materials burning, but authorities advised residents in the area to keep their windows closed Sunday night as a precaution, the station reported.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
