Postal Worker Robbed Of Mail At Knifepoint

Inspectors Offer $50,000 Reward

POSTED: Wednesday, October 26, 2005

A mail carrier was robbed at knifepoint in a neighborhood on Detroit's east side Wednesday morning, Local 4 reported.

Authorities said the postal worker was removing mail from the back of her truck at Spencer and Lantz streets when a man dressed in black approached her. He allegedly pulled a knife on her and ordered her to hand over mail.

The man grabbed some mail out of a tray in the back of the truck and fled the scene, the station reported.

"What we do know is he did get mail and he took off running on foot," said Cheryl Smith, of the postal inspection service.

The mail carrier was not injured in the incident.

Postal inspectors said the stolen mail affects some residents on Packard and Spencer streets in the 48234 zip code.

Authorities are offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information has been asked to call (313) 226-8184.
