54 water meters cut in Ferndale puzzle police and residents

FERNDALE, Mich. – Residents in a Ferndale neighborhood are perplexed at what some are calling a water meter mystery.

Ferndale police said the city’s Department of Public Works began noticing lines on water meters have been cut, with multiple residences and businesses targeted.

"They are out checking and found 54 meters have been destroyed. Clipped the wires on them." Said Detective Lt. William J. Wilson, of the Ferndale Police Department.

Officials say that cutting water maters is a felony crime, and that it will be an expensive venture to replace all of the lines which have already been severed.

Residents and police are wondering who would cut 54 meters.

"Could be kids or disgruntled or mad at the city a bunch of possibilities." said Lt. Wilson.
