DETROIT -- A man wearing a Santa Claus beard is accused of robbing a bank in Plymouth Township, and then leading police on a chase into Detroit Wednesday.
The robbery occurred at a Charter One bank branch located inside a Kroger store, Local 4 reported. Two men robbed the bank -- one dressed in the Santa Claus beard -- and fled the scene in a Honda Accord, according to the report.
Livonia police Detective Gregory Winn said a Livonia officer spotted the suspects' vehicle, pursued it and deployed stop sticks, which flattened the tires on the car. The car then lost control and crashed into a pole in the area of Outer Drive and Interstate 96 in Detroit, according to police.
Witness "Terrell" said he saw the vehicle lose a tire, and also heard gunshots.
When the men tried to flee from officers, shots were fired, Local 4 reported.
The man in the Santa Claus beard was wounded. He was listed in stable condition at a Livonia hospital, the station reported. The second man was taken into custody.
Local 4 learned from police that the man was not wearing a Santa Claus hat as initially reported.
