57th annual Ford Fireworks brings restrictions, closures

DETROIT – The wait is almost over -- 10,000 pyrotechnic effects will light up the Detroit skyline Monday night for the 57th annual Ford Fireworks.

Tens of thousands are expected to attend, which means one thing -- many road restrictions and closures will take effect around 6 p.m.

Westbound West Jefferson Avenue will be closed to the Cobo Center. It will also be closed in both directions from the Chrysler Freeway to Griswold.

Those heading into the area can park at:

  • Ford Underground garage
  • Joe Louis Arena garage
  • Millennium garage
  • Premier garage
  • Grand Circus Park garage

Prices will vary.

Wondering where watch the fireworks at? Belle Isle will open at 2 p.m. Those attending will need to have a recreation passport, or can buy one for $11 at the entrance.

Fireworks watchers will not be allowed on the MacArthur Bridge.

Hart Plaza will open to pedestrians at 2 p.m. and will close once when it's reached capacity.

Other places to view the Ford Fireworks include Mount Elliott, Owen and Erma Henderson parks.

Riverside Park and the Riverwalk will be closed.

The show is being put on by the Parade Company.
