Deshawn White was hit near St. Clair Street and East Warren Avenue. He was waiting for a school bus. His older brother saw it happen.
"We were crossing the street. The car was flying ... she wasn't trying to stop. She didn't blow the horn or nothing, she just kept going. Crashed, hit him and he flew in the air, and then I tried to help him up. He wouldn't get up. He wouldn't wake up," said DeAndre White.
The driver didn't stop and police said they are looking for a small silver or gray compact car -- it was last seen going westbound in the eastbound lanes on East Warren then southbound on Bewick Street.
Deshawn is being treated at Children's Hospital in Detroit. He was rushed into surgery.
"The doctors, before they took him into surgery, they said it's not looking good. But we're praying," said Deshawn's mother, Christen Jones.
Witnesses are being interviewed and surveillance video is being reviewed.
"If anyone has seen, it's a silver, newer model, possible hatch-back car, unknown make and model, but it does have a sun roof," said investigator Scott Sheets, of Detroit Police Homicide.
