60-mile Susan G. Komen marathon starts in Novi Friday

NOVI, Mich. – Thousands of women and men will come together this weekend to walk 60 miles over the course of three days for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day fundraiser.

This marks the eleventh year the event has been held in Michigan.

Participants raise a minimum of $2,300 and walk an average of 20 miles a day for three consecutive days, educating tens of thousands of people about breast health with every step. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by Komen 3-Day help support national research and large public health outreach programs. The remaining 25 percent supports local community and Affiliate outreach programs.

The walkers kick off the event Friday morning at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.

Supporters are welcome to cheer along the walkers.
