Berels Autopsy Complete; Doctors Perform Additional Test

Investigators Say Fetal Testing Was Done

POSTED: Monday, February 27, 2006

The autopsies of Melissa and Scott Berels have been completed, but investigators say one more test needed to be done.

Doctors took fetal tissue from Melissa's 10-week-old fetus, to rule out that accused killer Patrick Selepak, 27, is not the father of the baby, Local 4 reported.

Police and prosecutors believe that Melissa and Selepak had some contact before the slayings, but do not believe he fathered the child, according to the station's reports.

Melissa became pregnant while Selepak was in jail, Local 4 reported.

Testing the fetus is a standard procedure, and results could take several weeks.

Selepak and his fiancé, Samantha Bachynski, 19, are being charged with slaying Scott and Melissa Berels in their New Baltimore home, and will also be charged with the death of the fetus.
