Court Appearance Involves Death Of Vienna Township Man
POSTED: Thursday, March 16, 2006
FLINT, Mich. -- An ex-convict and his girlfriend face arraignment in Flint Thursday in the third of three killings linked to a crime spree in southeastern and central Michigan.
Police said Patrick Selepak, 27, and Samantha Bachynksi, 19, have confessed to shooting and strangling Melissa -- who was 10 weeks pregnant -- and Scott Berels, both 27, of New Baltimore on Feb. 15 and wrapping their bodies in plastic. Selepak and Bachynski have already been charged with two counts of first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder, home invasion and use of a firearm in a felony in their deaths.
Thursday's court appearance involves the Feb. 21 killing of Winfield Frederick Johnson, 53, of Genesee County's Vienna Township.
Authorities say Selepak and Bachynski befriended Johnson in a bar after they killed the Berelses. Johnson let them stay a few days in his home and was killed when he tried to run after figuring out the two were wanted by police, officials have said.
Selepak was on parole for robbery at the time of the killings.
