86-year-old Detroit carjacking victim forgives attacker

Aaron Brantley says 20-year-old attacker sent him letter from jail, asking for forgiveness

DETROIT – The 86-year-old man who was violently carjacked this month at a Detroit gas station was in court Thursday where he forgave his attacker.

Aaron Brantley said he still wants 20-year-old Paris Gomillion to do some time. Gomillion is charged with carjacking after police said surveillance video from the station shows him attack Brantely and steal his car.

Brantley said in court that he was hit from behind and his keys were snatched at the BP gas station on Detroit's west side.

The World War II veteran crawled with a broken leg to the gas station building as people walked by. He also said Gomillion sent him a letter from jail, asking him for forgiveness.

Gomillion's preliminary examination is scheduled for June 14.
