If you're planning on mailing a baby chick as gift for Easter, you may want to reconsider.
Baby chicks that are mailed have been found dead or dying. A local Humane Society said that without food, water or temperature control, thousands of baby birds die every year, Local 4 reported.
What animals can be sent through the mail?Small cold-blooded animals, except snakes and turtles. These include baby alligators, bloodworms, earthworms, mealworms, salamanders, leeches, lizards, snails and tadpoles.
Adult fowl. These include turkeys, guinea fowl, doves, pigeons, pheasants, partridges, quail, ducks, geese and swans if sent by express mail.
Adult chickens. The chickens must be sent by express mail in biological secure containers that meets mailing standards.
