A local elementary school is plagued by black mold and parents want to know if their kids will be safe when school starts in two weeks.
How do you get rid of stachybotry mold?
An environmental agency found black mold and other mold types inside the roof of Washington Elementary School in Romeo last May.
The roof has been replaced, but the roof decking remains contaminated and needs to be restored.
"My fear is that the building is not safe for my three children and the other 520 children that will be entering that building this fall," parent Susan Wilkinson said.
The school will have to remove the roof again to clean the contaminated decking. Another option is to wrap the molded area.
The Romeo school board fears that either way the building will not be clean before the new school year begins.
