A 48-year-old Livonia woman was crossing Merriman Road just north of 7 Mile when she was struck by a red mini-van. According to police, the woman was trying to make her way over to the east side of the road around 8:40 p.m.

The woman made it to the southbound lane of Merriman Road when she was hit. The van was traveling southbound on Merriman, and according to police the driver came to an immediate stop after the crash.

Livonia Fire and Rescue, along with police officers arrived on the scene to find the injured woman lying in the road. She was transported to Botsford Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Officials say the driver of the mini-van was a 47-year-old female from Livonia. The driver was the only one in the van and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The family of the victim has been notified.
