A Fraser family loses their home in a fire before the holidays

Fraser Firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire

Fraser, Mich. – A Macomb County family is homeless after an early morning fire destroyed their home Sunday.

The family was not home at the time of the fire. When the family came home from a holiday party, there was not much left of their house.

A neighbor says the home was all flames. "In a matter of five minutes, it went from in the back to the whole house."

Kathy Fyn says she first smelled smoke around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

An hour later, she awoke to flames right next door to her home on Woody in Fraser.

Neighbors say a family of six lived in the home. Four of them children, ages 6 to 16.

They lost not only their home but also their Christmas presents. Firefighters say they did all they could to save Christmas for this family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The red cross is assisting the family.
