Aiyana Jones' Father Charged In Teen's Death
Charles Jones Accused Of Aiding In Murder Of 17-Year-Old's Shooting
The father of a 7-year-old Detroit girl slain by police during a raid on their home has been arraigned on charges that he aided a man in the earlier killing of a 17-year-old boy.
Prosecutors said 26-year-old Charles Jones was arraigned Wednesday on first-degree murder, gun and perjury charges.
A preliminary examination is scheduled Nov. 18.
"It's sad. He's already suffered enough losing a daughter," said family friend Calvin Carpenter.
Jones is accused of encouraging Chauncey Owens in the May 14, 2010, shooting death of Je'rean Blake.
Police raided Jones' home two days later looking for Owens when his daughter, Aiyana Stanley-Jones was shot. Police have said the shooting was accidental. Officer Joseph Weekley was charged Tuesday with involuntary manslaughter in the girl's death.
Owens pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Blake's slaying and is expected to testify for the prosecution in Jones' trial.
Jones is being held without bond. He agreed to delay his next court appearance to give his defense team more time to prepare.
He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 18.
