DETROIT – Detroit police are investigating the theft of an armored van early Monday morning.
Police said the truck was stolen just after 7 a.m. from the 6400 block of Strong Street by two armed masked men. The van was servicing a local bank's ATM.
Police said the van was recovered just 30 minutes later at Sherwood and the Interstate 94 service drive.
It contained an undisclosed amount of money, but police didn't comment on whether any of it was taken.
The gunmen are not in custody.
The masked men had overpowered and disarmed the driver and the other man in the van. The van is used to move large amounts of cash to fill ATMs.
The FBI has not released how much money was inside the armored vehicle or how much the thieves may have taken.

On behalf of Soave Enterprises (the parent company of Ferrous Processing, which owns Strong Steel Products) the following statement is issued in response to the armored car robbery that took place at the facility this morning.
"At approximately 7:15 a.m. this morning an armored vehicle servicing Strong Steel Products was robbed at gunpoint. Fortunately no one was injured in this incident and law enforcement were quick to arrive on the scene. We would like to thank the Detroit Police Department and FBI for their rapid response, and we are working with them to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. In an effort to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation, we will not be making any further statements at this time. Any further questions will be referred to the Detroit Police Department."
