Arrests made in deadly Coney Island shooting, carjacking

Two suspects charged in Wyman Shaver's death

DETROIT – Two teenagers have been arrested and charged for the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old Wyman Shaver.

The incident happened early morning Thursday, July 12 at the Olympia Coney Island on the corner of Chalmers and Harper on Detroit's east side.

Shaver was in his 2004 Range Rover sitting in the restaurant's parking lot when one suspect approached him and ordered him out of the vehicle. As Shaver exited the vehicle a shot was fired and the suspects took off in the Range Rover.

Shaver was transported to a local hospital where he died.

Later that day, police discovered Shaver's vehicle in a garage on the 18000 block of San Juan. Members of the Comprehensive Violence Reduction Partnership (CVRP) were on surveillance in the area when they witnessed two males enter the garage.

19-year-old Victor Jerome Newell and 18-year-old Trenton Anthony Shell were then arrested. They are facing several charges including felony murder, carjacking, felony firearms and more. They are expected be arraigned Monday, July 16.
