Packard Plant in Detroit catches fire Sunday

DETROIT – The historic Packard Plant on Detroit's east side caught fire on Sunday.  The abandoned plant burned for hours as witnesses reported seeing smoke for miles.  No injuries were reported.

It's not an unusual sight at the old automotive plant.   The Packard Plant has caught fire several times in the past.

Back in March of this year, reports came out that the owner of the 3.3 million square foot site had demolition crews surveying the plant.  It appears the owner is simply awaiting a demolition permit.

The Packard Plant is located on East Grand Boulevard in Detroit.  Cars were built at the plant until 1958.  It has fallen into decay ever since.
