Arson destroys historic school house in Howell Township

The Michigan Arson Prevention Committee is offering up to $5,000 reward for tips leading to the arrest and/or conviction of anyone responsible for the arson that completely destroyed an historic one-room school house in Howell Township.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 25, the Howell Area Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at the school house. The building was fully engulfed in flames and was destroyed.
About the school:

Fleming School house on W Grand River in Howell Township was built in 1880 and held classes until the late 1950s.

It was named a Michigan Historic Site in 1994 and was still being used for field trips.

The fire is still under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff's Department Detective Bureau and the Howell Area Fire Marshal.
