Authorities say a young person faces a threat of terrorism charge amid an investigation into threats made against fellow students at a Michigan high school.

WSGW-AM and MLive.com report the felony charge against the juvenile was announced Wednesday.

The student was one of two held by authorities in Tuscola County after unspecified recent threats were investigated in Millington. Prosecutors say the second is charged with assault from an earlier incident at school and is a person of interest in the threats investigation.

The threats involved Millington High School, located about 65 miles northwest of Detroit. The students are being held at a juvenile detention facility.

Area schools were closed for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as a precaution. They're scheduled to reopen after a break for the holidays.

The Connecticut school massacre and doomsday scenarios based on the Mayan calendar have prompted the closing of dozens of Michigan schools for the rest of the year.

Many schools in Michigan were scheduled to have their last day of classes before the holiday break on Friday. But districts in Genesee and Lapeer counties posted announcements Wednesday evening canceling classes for Thursday and Friday.

Lapeer Community Schools says there have been numerous rumors circulating in the district and in nearby communities about potential threats.
Friday is supposedly when ancient Mayans prophesized the end of the world. Stepped-up police patrols are planned at some Detroit-area schools.
