MONROE, Mich. -

It looks like a swimming hole from an old movie, but Wednesday night it proved to be a deadly spot for a swim.

Terence Lee Reid-Lance, 20, was swimming with friends in Lake Monroe.

Friends tell sheriff’s investigators that Reid-Lance was about 25 feet off shore when he began struggling.

A girl was in the water with him and says Reid-Lance grabbed her and began to pull her under. She broke free, and the young man disappeared below the surface and drowned.

A dive team from the Monroe County Sheriff’s office recovered Reid-Lance’s body at 10:38 p.m.

Reid-Lance is from Pontiac.

He and his friends were swimming in the part of the lake that once was the location of the France Stone Quarry business.

Access off of East Dunbar Road at Hull Road can be gained by anyone off of a dirt road that leads back to the swimming-hole location.

A small beach area is littered with cans, bottles, socks and towels. A swing-rope is also on a tree here over the water.

It’s clear that this spot is a popular place to cool off during our hot weather, but the water here is deep and parts of the shallow areas are lined with jagged rocks.

Sheriff’s investigators tell Local 4 that no foul play is suspected in the death and despite the fact that the swimmers were on private property, no arrests were made or citations handed out.
