DETROIT -

The Oakland County Medical Examiner says the suspect in the deadly shooting of a West Bloomfield police officer died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officer Patrick O'Rourke was killed Sunday night in West Bloomfield Township while responding to a call for help at the home of Ricky Coley.

West Bloomfield Police Chief Michael Patton said Coley, a 50-year-old former auto executive who was facing business and family troubles, fired on police when they arrived.

O'Rourke, 39, died from a single gunshot to the head. He was a married father of four.

Coley went on to be embattled in a 20-hour siege that ended with him dead amid a weapons-strewn bedroom.

Patton said Coley's mother and brother had made the call to police Sunday night as they were helping him pack up to move back to North Carolina. Coley was in the middle of a divorce and was losing his home.

Patton said officers had been called to Coley's home about a month ago after family members said he was suicidal over his severe financial troubles. Patton said officers left confident that Coley was OK.
